The Red Countesses gathered together in a circle and held their hands out to the pool of moonlight that was spilling through the hole in the ceiling. The tower they were meeting in was an old crumbling stone building left over from the first millennium. As the beam of light touched their hands a warm red glow grew from the strange symbols that were etched around the fingers and knuckles of each tiny fairy hand. They smiled at each other and whispered together. “Queen Ellandria we are here to serve.” The Red Countess are a group of royal fairies from Ellenora Island who volunteered to let themselves be captured and chained to the Dark Island. The Evil Queen treasures the royal women and considers them to be her highest in the Court. The royal fairies are spies for the good Queen Ellandria and live in darkness and dreariness so that the good fairies on Ellenora Island can sleep in peace. Other Red Countesses can find each other by hidden red tattoos that are written upon the skin of their hands by the Queen Ellandria. When moonbeams touch their hands the red symbols glow.
